What Is A Medical Spa And What Type Of Services Are Available?

Posted on: 17 May 2019

A medical spa, also known as a wellness center, is basically the same type of facility as a day spa, except medical spas operate under the supervision of licensed health care professionals. Although both day spas and medical spas offer services, such as massages, pedicures, manicures and facials, a medical spa also offers procedures that are performed by trained professionals. The services offered at medical spas are either supervised by a medical professional or there is a medical professional on staff for consultations. Here are some of the most common services offered at a wellness center.

Laser Procedures

Laser procedures are one of the most common services offered at a medical spa. Laser treatments involve the use of a high beam laser device that is used for various aesthetic purposes. For instance, laser procedures may be used for hair removal, skin resurfacing or acne scar removal. Varicose vein removal is also a common laser procedure available at a wellness center. Laser procedures are safe and generally pain free cosmetic procedures that generally have a short recovery period.

IPL Photo Facial Treatments

IPL (intense pulsed light) photo facial treatments are laser light treatments that target pigment problems, such as sun damage, rosacea or brown spots. A photo facial treatment consists of the technician using a device with a bright, pulsing light to pass through the epidermis layer of your skin to draw out the pigment that is producing excess cells and causing uneven pigment. Photo facial treatments can also help to reduce wrinkles and mild scarring. This type of treatment can be used on the face, arms, legs, chest, neck and shoulders.

Wrinkle and Fine Line Treatments

A medical spa generally offers a variety of different treatment options for reducing or removing wrinkles and fine lines. The treatment will be dependent on what type of problem you are trying to repair. For instance, to prevent or reduce the risk of developing wrinkles, Botox is an option, but if you are attempting to fill in existing wrinkles and fine lines, then injectable dermal fillers would typically be used. Whether you opt for injectable fillers or Botox treatments, the procedure must be done by a licensed professional.

Some medical spas and wellness centers also provide weight loss services; such a nutrition advice, weight loss plans and exercise plans, as well as medical procedures for weight loss, such as laser procedures designed to target and eradicate fat. When choosing a medical spa, it is important that you choose one that has a good reputation for providing safe, effective services as well as has a medical profession either on the property or available at all times.
